Answer the prompt below
News analysis question: Pick a current news/problem in a European country(s) related to either the refugee/migration crisis or the rise of far-right politics. Summarize the event. If your article is about the refugee/migration crisis, then think about how this crisis challenges the nation-state (where a nation is a group of people who share common identity/values). If your article is about the rise of far-right politics, how does this challenge the liberal (mostly) societies of Europe? Use ideas from the textbook and class lectures. Cite your article at the end MLA or APA format.
Why complete the brief news analysis? These assignments will compel you to gain a greater understanding of world politics and acquaint you with regional politics. These assignments work together with the map quizzes. The map quizzes give you background geographical information, while the news analysis compels you to understand the political environment of a particular country of the continent in greater detail and enhance your critical thinking.
News analysis guidelines:
Pick news/events/problems that are current (a few months old to up to a year old). OR, if the international problem is years old, there must be a current development
2+ states involved or state and non-state actor(s) are involved. Or you are dealing with a problem that is transnational (many states and non-state actors are involved)
350-400 words long (excluding citation).
First, summarize (brief summary 4-5 sentences) and then move on to the analysis. For this assignment, you can analyze the event/problem, critique it and/or recommend a policy or solution.
