Reflective Article Critiques
You will complete four article critiques for this class. For each assignment, you will have a choice of
articles. For Article Assignment 1, you are to select one of the two articles provided to critique. For
Article Assignment 2, you are to select one of the four articles provided to critique. For Article
Assignments 3, you will select one of three articles provided to complete the assignment. For Article 4,
you are to choose the article from an online academic journal or database through the USM Library.
For Article Assignment 4, you are required to upload your article along with Article Assignment. If you
do not include your article, for the last assignment, you will receive a grade of zero.
Directions: Read the assigned articles.
Guidelines: Type your name in the header on one line and the title of the article on the same line. The
title of your article can be shortened in your heading. Your reflective critique should be typed, using
Times New Roman, 12-point font with 1-inch margins (top, bottom, left and right). Include the headings
described below when you type your reflection. Your response should be double-spaced under each of
these headings. The reflective critique should be no longer than 3 to 4 typed pages. You do not need to
include a title page. You are expected to use appropriate language, grammar, and sentence structure. (5
pts.)
Below I have explained what you should type in each section of the reflective critique. Be sure to use
these section headers (without the Roman numeral) in assignment.

I. Summary (50 pts.)
In this section of the reflective critique, you should summarize the main points of the article. Do not
plagiarize the article. This section should be written in your own words. This section should not be
longer than two to three pages. This section should be between a page and a half to three pages, but
no longer.
II. Relevance (25 pts.)
In this section, discuss how this article is significant to marriage and family issues and the lives of
individuals. You can also include how this article is personally relevant to you and/or your chosen career
field. This section should be ½ to ¾ of a page.
III. Critique (20 pts.)
In this section you have an opportunity to share your opinion about the article. Share what you
enjoyed/learned about the assignment or what you did not like about the assignment. This section
should be ½ to ¾ of a page.
