Three to four pages in length
Use one scholarly outside source (from a college or university library).
Using F. Scott Fitzgerald’s Babylon Revisited, argue a psychoanalytic or Marxist interpretation of the text.
These essays must have a strong thesis statement, body paragraphs supporting the thesis, and strong introduction and concluding paragraphs. As this is primarily a literature class, 100 of the 133 points will come from an interpretation of the text accompanied by a successful argument with supporting details from the story itself (short, direct quotes) and the secondary source. Twenty-three points will be assigned to organization of the argument. Ideally, the structure of an argumentative essay was covered in an earlier composition class. Ten points will be allocated to grammar and punctuation. This essay must be formatted using MLA–no exceptions.
